If you switch to Groupee from non Groupee on eve, there are a couple of things to keep in mind.
1. Transition Mode: this is an optional setting for sites that switch from non Groupee to Groupee. In this mode, your previosu registrants (pre-Groupee) wil be able to link their old accounts to their new Groupee accounts. The process is fairly easy and simply requires such users to provide their old registration info after they register/log in via Groupee. If they forget to do this the first time they come to your site after the transition, they can also link their old account via their MySpace page. By default when we switch you over to Groupee, this mode will be activated. You can deactivate at any time later in your eve control panel (Members > Registration Settings). We recommend thatyou keep your site in Transition Mode for at least 6 months, however. If you turn Transition Mode off, your users will not be able to link their old accounts to their Groupee accounts! 2. Transition Announcement Option: also by default when we switch you over, we will enable a short announcement that appears immediatly after a user clicks on the Login/Join button. This short announcement explains what has happened (the switch to a new universal registration system). We set a cookie when a user sees this so the user will not see the announcement in future visits (via the same browser). You can also disable this option at any time in your eve control panel (Members > Registration Settings). Of course, if you are starting fresh with Groupee, none of this will apply to you. If you have questions, please let us know! Ted O'Neill Groupee CEO |

Groupee |
I just wanted to add that evedev.com is using Groupee and the switch was a breeze. Just login via Groupee, enter your old credentials, and zap - your old profile is linked to your Groupee login.

To follow up on Steven's post, one of the enhancements in the next version (1.2.10) is the new Easy Conversion for sites moving to the Groupee Network from outside the network. (The orginal post here is from 2004 so it is out of date now.)
With Easy Conversion, Groupee Community automatically converts all existing members for the network. Members that have email addresses that are already registered with Groupee have their exisitng profiles automatically linked to their Groupee Network login. Members without Groupee accounts have accounts created for them using the password from the existing community. These members will still need to agree to the Groupee Network terms of service the first time they try to login with that account. This makes the transition to the network very easy. As for your question, Eliyahu, there are a couple of reasons why you may want to switch: 1. Convenience for your users. No one likes registering (and having to remember) new account logins. The number of users in the Groupee Network is growing rapidly so participating in that network means that the barrier to entry is lower for all of these people. (I can't tell you how convenient it is for me as eomone who particpates in a lot of Groupee Communities to have just one login I can use across all of my sites!) 2. Premium Memberships: if you currently offer premium memberships, or plan to in the future, keep in mind that our SitePay service uses the Groupee login as well. If your site is part of the network, that means your users can use the same login when paying for a premium membership. Ted O'Neill Groupee CEO |
